CFIA Seed Regulatory Modernization – Needs Assessment

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is responsible for the administration of the Seeds Act and Regulations. The CFIA, through its Seed Regulatory Modernization initiative, is committed to updating Part I-Seeds other than Seed Potatoes , Part II-Seed Potatoes, Part III-Variety Registration  and Part IV-Registration of Establishments that Prepare Seed and Licensing of Operators of its Seeds Regulations to ensure flexibility in addressing future technical advances and scientific innovation in seed and seed potato systems.

The CFIA is taking a collaborative approach to ensure impacted seed and seed potato stakeholders have a voice in shaping the amendments to the Seeds Regulations.

The Survey

Consultation activities are currently underway. A Needs Assessment Survey  is the first consultation in the Seed Regulatory Modernization process. To ensure your organization’s needs and the needs of your members are met, the survey will gather information to provide insight on the following:

  • Benefits of the current seed and seed potato regulatory framework and systems
  • Opportunities for change and issues that need to be addressed
  • Openness to the expansion of industry delivery of regulatory services

Your opinion matters. Tell us what you think by filling out the survey . We need your help to engage as many stakeholders as possible –  your full feedback will be invaluable in supporting the CFIA’s Seed Regulatory Modernization initiative, which in turn benefits all Canadians.

The survey will take approximately 15 – 20 minutes to complete and will be open from January 29, 2021 to March 15, 2021.
