The BC Grain Producers held their Annual General Meeting on July 12, 2023, at the Cecil Lake Hall. Forty-five farmers and industry reps were in attendance; the morning was filled with updates on the outreach and Advocacy initiatives that the association has done throughout the year.
Directors Malcolm Odermatt, Ed Hadland, Ernest Wiebe, & Roberta Vanderlinden were up for re-election; each previous director let their name stand; also, the position of vice president needed to be filled as Jennifer Critcher stepped down from her director position. For the first time in many years, when the call came for new directors, more farmers agreed to let their name stand than positions. To allow room for all new directors who are interested in being on the board, long-time directors Robert Vanderlinden removed his name from the election and has agreed to stay on in an advisory/ mentorship capacity.
By Acclamation, the new BC Grain Producers board is Malcolm Odermatt, Ed Hadland, Hannah Willms, Ty Cusack, Ernest Wiebe, Amias Dirks, Kevin Thiessen & Miles Wuthrich. Welcome to the new directors; we look forward to collaborating with you all throughout the next year. Special acknowledgement to Robert Vanderlinden for his 20-year contribution to the association. Robert’s many years of service to the agriculture community in the Peace Region will be felt for years to come. On behalf of the BCGPA board, thank you, Robert, for guiding new directors to ensure the organization’s long-term success.
The AGM was followed by a farm tour to showcase the BCGPA Field Scale Research funded through the BC Hydro Agricultural compensation fund. More Farm tour information to follow in the upcoming days. Thank you to everyone who attended.
